By the time I was 30 I felt 60. I creaked and ached. I had tests for rheumatism, which proved negative. The thought of how
I would be at 60 was depressing, to say the least. I suffered from neck ache, lower back ache, and had two frozen shoulders
in close succession. (I realised much later that these were nearly entirely to do with my self image and not do with my genes
or disease as doctors would have me believe.) I was also diagnosed with ankylosing spondilitis, which gave me leg pain which
was especially severe when sitting and meant it took me 7 days rather than 3 to drive from Dusseldorf to Istanbul. (And all
this before the age of 30!) The ankylosing spondilitis (either, I now realise, a mild and non-progressive form, or a wrong
diagnosis)led me to the Alexander Technique and, some 8 years ago, from there to the Feldenkrais Method and I subsequently
became a Feldenkrais Practitioner. I now have no back or neck aches, and no leg pain. I am still "unlearning" the
stubborn habits of one frozen shoulder. I have become friends with movement and no longer feel restricted by my body. I move
more easily now than 10 years ago. Do you ever think how you'll feel 20 years from now? When we're young, ageing
seems aeons away. Even a few creaks and aches do. How is it that these things creep up on us?

Who is Feldenkrais work helpful for?

THE FELDENKRAIS METHOD Feldenkrais work is based on the premise that everyone, given the right conditions, whatever
their age, ability, weight, fitness and even whatever their neurological health, can learn. There are two forms of Feldenkrais
work: Awareness Through Movement (ATM) and Functional Integration (FI). These support and complement each other
Our Choices

The Feldenkrais Method was developed by Moshe Feldenkrais, physicist, engineer and judo black belt, who, after repeated knee
injuries, rejected the 50% chance of success of a knee operation which would either enable him to walk or tie him to a wheel
chair for the rest of his life.
